Ms. Julie T. Broussard
Country Programme Manager,  UN Women China Office

Ms. Julie T. Broussard has lived and worked in China for more than 10 years and speaks fluent Chinese. Since March 2009, she has worked as the Country Programme Manager for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) office in China.

Along with a staff of eight, Julie is responsible for managing a variety of UN Women projects and programmes that promote gender equality and womenOs empowerment in China.

Prior to taking up this position with UN Women, she obtained a doctorate degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. For her degree, she conducted research on an environmental education and womenOs empowerment project in Gansu Province, China. Her primary areas of expertise are gender, environment, poverty alleviation, and education.

Before obtaining this degree, Ms. Broussard worked for several UN agencies in China. She served as a programme officer for UNFPA from 1999-2001 and as a programme assistant for UNESCO from 1996-1997.She also served as a UN volunteer in Yunnan Province from 1997-1998, helping to coordinate a poverty alleviation programme in a remote, rural county.In addition, she worked for an international NGO for six months in 1999. In the early 1990s (1990-1993), she worked as an English teacher at two Chinese universities. She also has Masters Degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Indiana University, as well as a BachelorOs Degree from Northwestern University.

Ms. Broussard lives in Beijing with her husband and two young daughters.
